Lacy & Larkin Frontera Fund Support Organizations such as the NNIR

The current political climate has brought immigration to the center stage, and as a result many human rights advocacy groups are working together in an effort to roll back what they see as an assault on the human rights of migrants in the United States and elsewhere.

One of the leading organizations in this struggle is the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, which seeks to protect and expand the rights of migrants. The organization was founded in 1986 and is centered around building coalitions to make a positive impact on policy and legislation in order to safeguard immigrant rights.

In 2017, the organization plans on sending an open letter to President Trump and Congress. The NNIRR hopes to attract prominent co-signers that will attract attention to the plight of many refugees and migrants in the country. Over the thirty years that the group has been active, they have published a host of reports on policy and immigration issues in addition to their activism.

In addition, the NNIRR has education as one of its principal aims. The organization established the Immigrant and Refugee Rights Training Institute, which runs a train-the-trainer course as well as training community organizers and other leaders. Learn more about Jim Larkin: and

The leaders of the NNIRR were instrumental in the passage of Immigration Control and Reform Act of 1986, which provided for the legalization of undocumented immigrants but also set into motion the present framework of immigration enforcement, which threatens the rights of millions of migrant workers, refugees, and asylum seekers.

The leaders of the NNIRR, although pleased that their efforts had led to amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States, decided that they had to continue their fight against the unfair measures in the new law.

The Lacy & Larkin Frontera Fund is devoted to providing financial support to groups such as the NNIRR, which work on behalf of migrant and refugee rights. The fund was established Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, journalists who were imprisoned by Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio for revealing grand jury information relating to an investigation of the Sheriff’s practices.

The Lacy & Larkin Frontera Fund is also committed to promoting activism and freedom and expression in the borderlands on behalf of immigrants and other disenfranchised people in the region.

The Larcy & Larkin Frontera Fund was established with the $3.75 million settlement the two journalists received stemming from their false arrest. The pair filed a lawsuit against Maricopa County, Arizona and after years of legal wrangling were vindicated by the Ninth Circuit federal appeals court.
