Mike Heiligenstein’s Efforts to Ease Traffic Congestion by Implementing Road Reforms

 

At the annual Williamson County Growth Summit, Mike Heiligenstein and his colleagues Leandre Johns, Joseph Kopser, and Jared Ficklin met to develop policies to ease traffic in the county. They proposed the implementation of an aerial gondola system as a solution to the traffic problem. They argued that aerial gondola system had proved to be a success in other parts of the world and could be effective in Central Austin.

 

Other technologies discussed during the forum include ridesharing apps and driverless vehicles. According to Heiligenstein, theses new technologies would transform the entire transportation system. He further highlighted the need to construct modern roads to serve the growing population.

 

About Mike Heiligenstein

 

Mike Heiligenstein obtained his first degree from the University of Texas. He also has a master’s degree in government and business administration. Heiligenstein is the executive director of Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, a government-sponsored organization founded in 2002. He was appointed to head the agency in 2003. Since then, Heiligenstein has been in charge of managing Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority’s activities, which include developing modern and regional transportation networks. Heiligenstein role’s at the agency revolves around improving the transportation system in Travis and Williamson counties. Over the years, he has assisted in reducing congestion in these counties through the implementation of multi-modal, innovative transportation solutions.

Heiligenstein has also served as an elected official in the Williamson County for over two decades. As an elected county official, he has also served as chairperson of the Clean Air Force of Texas board. Additionally, he acted as a member of the Austin-San Antonio Corridor Council.

 

In 2014, Heiligenstein was appointed the president of the International Bridge, Tunnel, and Turnpike Association, an organization that implements the state-of-art user-based transportation financing solutions. He is also a member the Advisory Board of the WTS Heart of Texas Chapter and the Advisory Council of Texas A&M Transportation Institute. Additionally, he also serves as a member of the Texas Department of Transportation’s Texas Technology Task Force. His commitment to addressing the transportation issue in Williamson County has earned his several high-profile jobs and recognitions.
